The Summer Symphony Strings camp is an annual commuter day camp, no audition required! This camp is open to students in grades 5 through 8 (in the current 2019-2020 school year) who have been playing for at least one year and can read music. Students participate in orchestra rehearsals and sectionals, working with professional staff members who supervise all activities. The daily schedule includes additional arts experiences outside of music, including a tour of Civic Center Music Hall, a movement classes with the OKC Ballet, and gallery tours with the Oklahoma City Museum of Art. The week concludes on Friday with a Camp Closing Ceremonies concert, free and open to the public. Check out the example schedule below and click Pre-register to let us know you’re interested – we will confirm whether or not we are able to hold camp this year in early May – stay tuned!

“The students in the OKYO’s Summer Symphony Strings Camp continue to amaze me! In just one week they are able to create an amazing, mature musical product that belies their young age. I am also continually in awe at how they grow in their maturity, their relationships, and their leadership. These are the real tenets why we teach music, and I am humbled to be a part of the team that makes this growth possible each year.”

– Mr. Peter Markes, Camp Artistic Director, OKYO Advisory Council Member, and 2014 Oklahoma Teacher of the Year
